Merry Christmas, Cowboys fans. You’ll get to spend the big day unwrapping the newest edition of one of the NFL’s signature rivalries.
As had been previously rumored, the Cowboys will travel to the nation’s capital to square off against the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day, it was officially announced Wednesday, just hours before the entire 2025 season schedule was to be revealed.

The two NFC East squads will have already played once before during the season; the Week 17 holiday matchup will be the 132nd all-time meeting between the clubs. The Cowboys hold a 79-49-2 advantage in the series.
The game will be streamed live on Netflix in the early-afternoon timeslot, 1 p.m. ET.

Both games in this season’s Cowboys-Commanders series will be loaded with storylines, including a battle between Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott, now one of the longest-tenured passers in the league, and Washington signal-caller Jayden Daniels, representing the new wave of electricifying playmakers at the position.
It will also pit new Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer against former co-worker Dan Quinn, once the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator and now in his second season helming the Commanders.
And given the spot in the next-to-last weekend of the regular season, the tilt could have major playoff implications for one or both teams.
Also of note, since Christmas Day falls on a Thursday this year, the Cowboys will almost certainly have a short week of preparation leading into the game… and then a timely mini-bye afterward, to get ready for the season finale and postseason.
The remainder of the 2025 regular-season schedule will be revealed Wednesday evening. Check Cowboys Wire’s rumor tracker for the latest rumblings about what the schedule might contain.
