Woman who fatally stabbed 3-year-old at North Olmsted Giant Eagle is found guilty

The woman who fatally stabbed a 3-year-old at Giant Eagle in North Olmsted in June 2024 was found guilty of aggravated murder and other charges on Oct. 15, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley.

Julian Wood’s mother, Margot, 37, also sustained injuries as she attempted to save the child from Bionca Ellis, 34.

“My thoughts and prayers remain with the Wood family,” O’Malley said in a news release. “I can’t imagine the anguish they must feel after the loss of Julian.”

Ellis stole two knives from a thrift store next to the grocery store around 3 p.m. June 3, 2024, O’Malley said. She walked next door to Giant Eagle, where she spotted Julian and his mother and began following them.

After Margot Wood paid for her groceries and walked toward the exit of the store, Ellis followed them into the parking lot.

At Margot Woods’ car, Ellis immediately stabbed Julian multiple times as he was in a shopping cart, O’Malley said. Margot Wood attempted to pull him out and also was stabbed. Several people called police and reported the stabbing.

North Olmsted police officers located Ellis walking toward Dover Center Road with a knife in her hand. She was arrested without incident.

Julian and his mother were transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His mother was treated for her injuries.

Ellis was found guilty on one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of endangering children and one count of misdemeanor theft.

She will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Oct 27 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in Cleveland.
