Two arrested, none injured after drive-by shooting targets Marion police

Two Marion police officers and four community members were shot at by a passing car in the early hours of Sept. 22.

The shooting happened around 12:20 a.m. as Marion police officers were speaking with witnesses while investigating an assault and aggravated burglary at 140 N. Grand Ave, the police release stated.

While on the front porch of a nearby home where the assault occurred, a vehicle drove past and fired multiple shots at the two officers and four community members, the release stated.

No one was struck by the bullets or seriously injured. One officer was struck in the face by flying debris.

Officers used Flock cameras and “other investigative resources” to find the vehicle parked at 500 Park St., the release stated. Three men at the address were taken into custody and two face criminal charges. The third was released after being interviewed by police.

Isaiah D. Redmon, 24, is charged with attempted murder, felonious assault, felonious assault of a police officer, discharging a firearm into a habitation and aggravated burglary.

A 16-year-old male was charged with complicity to attempted murder, felonious assault, felonious assault of a police officer, discharging into a habitation and aggravated burglary.

“Only by the grace of God were multiple people not killed by this incredibly reckless and violent act,” Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald said. “I am thankful for the ongoing work being completed by investigators in this case.”

Police shared a video recording of the incident on the Marion Police Department’s Facebook page.
