Stark County Ice Cream Adventures conclude with 2 spots

Some people chase sunsets. I chase ice cream.

What began as a sweet-toothed adventure across Stark County has reached its final two stops. After visiting 25 places that featured everything from classic cones and root beer floats to extravagant sundaes and unexpected flavor combinations, the journey wraps up with a scoop of Blue Moon and, fittingly, a sundae with a cherry on top.

Along the way, the adventure has been about more than what was in the cone or dish. It has been a chance to revisit longtime favorites, discover new places and highlight the local businesses that make Stark County’s ice cream scene so much fun to explore.

Stop No. 24: New Baltimore Homemade Ice Cream

Where: 14738 Ravenna Ave. NE in Marlboro Township

When: Noon to 10 p.m. daily

What I tried: A small cake cone with a scoop of Blue Moon ice cream. Creamy and refreshing, it was the perfect treat on a hot summer day.

Sweet take: The ice cream flavors change often, giving you plenty of reasons to come back and see what’s being scooped that day. On the day I visited, choices included classics like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, along with butter pecan, chocolate whip, White House, salted caramel truffle, key lime and chocolate almond.

Stop No. 25: The Komfort Zone

Where: 204 N. Market St. in Minerva.

When: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Phone: 330-415-1631

What I tried: A Strawberry Shortcake TKZ Kup, with vanilla ice cream layered between shortcakes and strawberries, then topped with whipped cream and, of course, a cherry on top. I settled into a table by the window in this cozy downtown Minerva spot and enjoyed watching the world go by while I indulged.

Sweet take: Other TKZ Kups include Turtle, Chocolate Lovers, Peanut Butter Overload and Go Bananas. And if you have a big ice cream appetite or a few friends willing to share, try an ice cream flight featuring four scoops of your choice.

As for that cherry on top? It seemed like the perfect ending to a sweet adventure that took me to 25 ice cream stops across Stark County, following my sweet tooth one lick at a time.
