For the first time in a long time, there is hope within the Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver unit heading into the 2026-27 NFL regular season.
This offseason, general manager Andrew Berry made it a point of emphasis to attack the wide receiver position in the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in the first two rounds. The youthful movement that has quickly taken over the Browns’ roster points to brighter days for the struggling organization, with both rookie pass catchers proving to be miles ahead of the rest of the unit this offseason.
However, with plenty of new faces beginning to stand out, it’s clear that Cleveland is leaving their old ways behind and looking towards the future. This could lead to yet another trade by the front office, with veteran wide receiver Jerry Jeudy being the primary target for the Browns to move on from before the regular season.
Should the Browns trade Jeudy this offseason?
Jeudy, a former first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos before the 2024 season. The 27-year-old quickly became a key playmaker for the organization in his first season, finishing with 1,229 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 90 receptions.
Unfortunately for Jeudy, his career-high performance in 2024 would not carry over to last season, as he barely reached 600 receiving yards in 2025. The drop issues that plagued him early in his career with the Broncos haunted him once again last year and were a catalyst for why the front office heavily attacked the position in the recent draft.
Now, with both Concepcion and Boston establishing themselves in head coach Todd Monken’s offense throughout training camp, Jeudy is becoming the odd man out of the bunch.
If the Browns are truly willing to part ways with their former top receiver, the organization could save three-million dollar in cap space for the 2026 season, while also taking a three-million dollar cap hit in 2027. Moving off Jeudy is feasible for Cleveland and would ultimately create more opportunities for the rookies and second-year wide receiver Isaiah Bond this season.
Luckily for Berry and the front office, multiple teams could use a wideout before the regular season, such as the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders. The 49ers have already caught the injury bug, while the Commanders failed to add a complementary piece for Terry McLaurin this offseason.
Depending on whether or not the opportunity presents itself, the Browns should definitely consider parting ways with Jeudy. Berry has an outstanding record with late-round picks, and giving him more ammunition could benefit the organization in the future.
