Roundup: Newark girls tennis sweeps Bishop Hartley

Kayla Blackstone won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0, on Aug. 18, completing a 5-0 victory for the Newark girls tennis team at Bishop Hartley.

Bella Sherman, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 1 and Analeigh Roy, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 also won singles matches for the Wildcats (3-0). Isabelle Tracy and Amora Spring, 6-1, 6-2, and Piper Franklin and Gianna Buchdrucker, 6-0, 6-4, won doubles matches.

Granville sweeps

Granville did not drop a set in a 5-0 victory against visiting Whetstone.

Addison Eckels, 6-0, 6-1, Ava Upton, 6-1, 6-0, and Alexa Todora, 6-0, 6-0, were singles winners for the Blue Aces (3-0). Doubles winners were Sadie Treece and Sammie Painvin, 6-2, 6-0, and Kennedy Timmons and Sammy Garman, 6-2, 6-0.

BOYS GOLF

Hall leads Granville

Hudson Hall shot 76 and tied for 21st at Darby Creek, leading Granville during Worthington Kilbourne’s Bob Pritchard Memorial.

Todd Dao added an 80 in a tie for 41st place, A.J. Stump an 81 in a tie for 48th and Stevie Joseph 84 in a tie for 54th for the Blue Aces.

Kamppi shoots 40

Dawson Kamppi fired a 40 at Cumberland Trail for Liberty Christian in a victory against Delaware Christian.

MJ Glenn added a 44, Logan Dyer 45 and Brandon Mazzarini 49 for the Eagles.

BOYS SOCCER

Northridge wins at home

Mason Moss made 15 saves for Northridge on Aug. 17, preserving a 4-3 victory against visiting Cristo Rey.

Kaden Krotzer led the Vikings (2-0) with two goals. Hayden Gray and Zach McCutcheon added a goal apiece and Drake Gokenbach an assist.
