CUYAHOGA FALLS — When Walsh Jesuit played host to Trotwood-Madison Oct. 24, both teams saw the game as a perfect test ahead of the OHSAA postseason
Thanks to a win over the Rams, the might have one less game to deal with in the Division II, Region 5 playoffs.

It was gritty at times, but Walsh (8-1) did what it needed to beat Trotwood-Madison (6-3) 31-14 at Conway Memorial Stadium. Walsh scored the final 14 points in the fourth quarter to seal it.
“We’ve got a lot to clean up,” said Walsh coach Nick Alexander. “Our goal is to be playing our best football in November and we’ve got to get a lot better and we will. I think we earned that bye and we’re going to use that extra week to work on ourselves.”
According to JoeEitel.com, Walsh will have a first-round bye, as the win vaulted the Warriors into second in the final Region 5 standings.
Walsh lost the turnover battle 3-1. QB David Ternosky had an up-and-down night, going 9-of-22 for 104 yards with one TD and three interceptions. Trotwood-Madison’s defensive line harried Ternosky most of the night.
Walsh’s plan to deal with the Rams’ line was to run at it. The plan worked, as Walsh rolled up 254 rushing yards, led by a Marty Tobin with 186 yards and a TD.
“Kudos to my O-line. They always block well,” Tobin said. “At the start, they were kind of being disrespectful and I took that personally. I had a chip on my shoulder the whole game and i was just a great win.
Despite two first-half interceptions, one of which negated a long TD pass for Walsh, the Warriors never trailed. Walsh opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD leap from Carlos Smith, while a 30-yard FG from Freddie Marcell made it 10-0 at the half.
One key for Walsh was it responded every time T-M came close.
The Rams opened the third quarter with a 12-yard TD run from Daylon Dennis, but Walsh responded on the ensuing kickoff. Kian McHugh grabbed the kickoff and returned it 75 yards, making it 17-6 Walsh after three quarters.
A Ternosky fumble would set up Trotwood-Madison’s next score, as quarterback Dallas Shehee ran in a 1-yard TD run.
However, Ternosky atoned on the next drive, hitting Milan Parris with a 40-yard TD pass to stretch the lead out.
Tobin put the exclamation point on the win with a 12-yard TD run with 36 seconds left.

After a big running game, Walsh running back Marty Tobin just clinched it for the Warriors.
Tobin ran in a 12-yard TD run, completing a 186-yard performance on the night. Freddie Marcell’s PAT made it 31-14 Warriors with 36 seconds left.
Walsh football answers with long TD pass
It didn’t take long for Walsh to respond to the Rams.
After another long kickoff return from McHugh, Walsh QB David Ternosky threw the long ball to Milan Parris. Parris got behind the defense for a 40-yard TD pass. Freddie Marcell hit the PAT to push Walsh’s lead out to 24-14 with 7:37 left in the game.

After a fumble recovery on the Walsh 39, Trotwood-Madison found the end zone again.
After two close stops, Rams QB Dallas Shehee ran in a 1-yard TD run. Shehee then hit tight end Justyce Taylor with a two-point conversion pass, cutting it to 17-14 Walsh with 8:35 left in the game.

The Warriors maintain a two-score lead heading into the fourth quarter. Walsh will open the fourth qith a second down and seven at its own 46.
Trotwood-Madison scores, but Walsh football answers to start the third quarter
Trotwood-Madison opened the second half with its best drive of the game, going 75 yards in 11 plays. Daylon Dennis capped the drive with a 13-yard TD. The Rams two-point conversion pas went incomplete, but the lead was cut to 10-6.
However, on the ensuing kickoff, Walsh’s Kian McHugh took the ball at the 25 and sprinted 75 yards for the kickoff return TD. Freddie Marcell hit the PAT to make it 17-6 Walsh with 7:01 left in the third quarter.

Walsh’s Marty Tobin broke loose for a 50-yard run to end the half, but time expired as he was forced out of bounds. The Warriors will take a 10-0 lead into the locker room. Trotwood-Madison will open the second half with the ball.

On a disputed play, Trotwood-Madison’s Tristan Bozeman took the ball away from Milan Parris in the end zone. The Rams take over at their 20 with 4:04 left in the second quarter.

Walsh’s first drive of the second quarter stalls just outside the red zone, but kicker Freddie Marcell hit a 30-yard FG to make it 10-0 Walsh with 8:51 left in the first half.

Both teams threw an interception in the first quarter, but Walsh maintains a 7-0 lead. Trotwood-Madison will open the second quarter with second and eight at its own 45.

After a exchange of punts to start the game, Walsh took advantage of a short field, starting at the T-M 41.
Carlos Smith scored his sixth TD of the season, leaping into the end zone from one yard out. Freddie Marcell hit the PAT to make it 7-0 Walsh with 6:29 left in the first quarter.

Who are the key players for Walsh Jesuit football?
Warriors quartebacck David Ternosky has had an efficient season.He comes off a solid performance in Week 9 vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary, where her went 11-of-16 passing for 127 yards and three TDs.
Ternosky has plenty of weapons around him, led by Milan Parris at wide receiver. Cambell Lann, Kian McHugh and Vinnie Cortad each grabbed TD passes in Week 9.
RB Carlos Smith alslo had a big game in Week 9 with 107 yards and three TDs on just eight carries.
Coach Nick Alexander said the play of Walsh’s offensive line will be key against a Rams defensive line that has multiple Division I recruits.
