COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Three days before hosting rival Michigan, Ohio State goes to Maryland with hopes of avoiding a resume-defeating loss.
The Buckeyes remain right around the projected cut line for the NCAA Tournament after a 10-point loss at Wisconsin on Jan. 31 dropped them to 14-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten. Now they go play a Maryland team with just one league win this season. The Terps have lost three straight and seven of their last eight.
That being said, the Xfinity Center has not been kind to the Buckeyes. Their only win on Maryland’s home court came during the 2020-21 season, when only cardboard cutouts witnessed the COVID-19 era game. Otherwise, Ohio State is 0-7 on Maryland’s current home floor with six losses in double figures and the seventh by nine points.

Puff Johnson unavailable for Ohio State
The most recent addition to Ohio State’s roster will not play against Maryland. Puff Johnson is listed as unavailable on the official availability report published by the Big Ten. He is out due to injury, and his absence has nothing to do with the temporary restraining order he obtained midseason.
Maryland will be without Pharrel Payne, who has not played in weeks, and Eli Rice, who started the Terrapins’ last game.
Ohio State also remains without Brandon Noel (foot), Josh Ojianwuna (knee) and Myles Herro (redshirt).
