MASSILLON – A modern office building that opened its doors in 2017 is on the market.
The First North building, 50 North Ave. NE, was listed for sale in late July. It’s a multi-tenant office property and one of the newer professional facilities within downtown.
The two-story, 26,800-square-foot structure sits on a 1.1-acre lot and is modeled after a 1930s-style warehouse. It’s located just east of the AA Hammersmith Insurance Agency.
Owner Katherine Gessner said the First North sale is part of Massillon Cable TV slowing down operations, following “the sale of most company assets” earlier this year to Armstrong communications.
“This is part of our wind-down process,” said Gessner, noting that there’s no immediate plan to transition into another business post-MCTV.
“We’ll still be (personally) rooted in Massillon,” she added.
First North is listed for sale under NAI Global. The unpriced property includes dedicated parking lots and an adjacent pocket park.
One commercial real-estate website, LoopNet, has First North’s sale listed as “under contract.” However, Gessner said she was not familiar with that development.
Gessner declined to say what the asking price is for the building, but said she expects a sale into seven figures.

Former MCTV President Bob Gessner, Katherine’s father, opened the $4.5 million facility in late 2017 to help boost local economic growth. The building is home to the Massillon-West Stark Chamber of Commerce and John Patrick Picard Architect firm.
Ted Herncane, Massillon’s development director, called First North a “huge asset” over the past decade for city commerce.
“It provides top-of-the line office space, which is important for the attraction and retention of jobs downtown,” he said.
Some perks shared among the tenants are a 20-person conference room with video capability, as well as restrooms and a full-service breakroom, parking and weekly cleaning service.
Other facility amenities include fiber-optic internet, building-wide backup generator, video surveillance and electronic access.
