Ready to feel old? A couple of former Cleveland baseball greats have sons eligible for this year’s MLB Draft.
Among the many players hoping to be selected when this year’s draft begins July 13 are outfielder Manny Ramirez Jr. and first baseman Carsten Sabathia, both whom have famous fathers — Manny Ramirez and CC Sabathia.

The elder Ramirez was one of the most feared hitters of his generation, launching 555 home runs with a .996 OPS, mostly between Cleveland and Boston, where he won two World Series championships. He went on to be a 12-time All-Star, but he was also twice suspending for violating MLB’s PED policy, which played a major role in his Hall of Fame chances.
The elder Sabathia became a first-ball Hall of Famer in January and will be inducted later this month. He won the 2007 Cy Young Award with Cleveland and finished his career with 251 wins and a 3.74 ERA. He’s also one of only four left-handers to reach the 3,000 strikeout plateau.
Neither Manny Ramirez Jr. or Carsten Sabathia is ranked in the top 200 prospects for the 2025 draft. Ramirez Jr. attended Tallahassee State College. Last season, while playing for the University of Houston, Sabathia hit .235 with a .703 OPS.
