ALLIANCE ‒ Attorney Julie Jakmides will return to City Council, this time as the board’s president.
Jakmides was selected Aug. 10 after a meeting of Alliance’s Republican Precinct Committeemen at the city’s Municipal Courthouse. She served four terms on City Council from January 2012 until May 2016.
Jakmides will replace longtime public servant Art Garnes, who resigned July 23 after moving into hospice care during a battle with cancer. Garnes is a retired teacher and superintendent of Alliance City Schools.
Attorney Shawn Robertson also sought the position on council. He works for Robertson Law Firm, a family practice.
Jakmides works with her father, attorney Jeffrey Jakmides, in private practice.
