Joey's Place Opens in Former Home of Several Restaurants

A new restaurant, Joey’s Place, announced its soft opening July 31 at 2333 N. High St. on social media.

The post stated that the bar and patio are now open, with a kitchen that will serve bar food coming soon. The business is leaning in to its north-campus location with a focus on the upcoming football season, asking patrons to help Joey’s devise a game day ritual and inviting them to watch the games on the restaurant’s 12 televisions.

General Manager Loren Stone told Columbus Monthly magazine that they are targeting a full opening the weekend of the Buckeyes’ home opener on Aug. 30.

The space has previously been home to several restaurants, most recently Oishii 2 Japanese Bistro. Adelaide’s Gin Joint was in the space before that, and both Oishii 2 and Adelaide’s were open for less than one year. Bygone restaurants Trillium Kitchen & Patio and Alana’s Food and Wine were also at this location.

New LGBTQ+ restaurant and bar opens in Short North

Black Sheep Kitchen & Spirits will have its soft opening from Aug. 7-10 in the space formerly occupied by Bristol Republic, at 1124 N. High St. According to the business’ website, it is “proudly rooted in the LGBTQIA+ community” and visitors can expect “bold food, proper cocktails and a space that reflects exactly that.”

Opening-weekend entertainment will include DJs, drag performers, stiltwalkers and other circus acts. The concept was developed by Misty Linn, owner of District West, in partnership with members of the West family, according to a release from the restaurant.

Marib Coffee opens in Westerville

Chef Najmeddine Gabbar, owner of Yemeni Restaurant, has opened a new coffee shop, Marib, at 610 W. Schrock Road in Westerville. The shop, named for the city of Marib, Yemen, will serve knafeh and other desserts, along with handcrafted drinks. Gabbar was named a Tastemaker by Columbus Monthly magazine in 2022 for Yemeni Restaurant and for bringing franchises of Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. to town.
