As families in Roseville and Crooksville begin the long progress of recovering from devastating flooding, local schools and community organizations are stepping up with donation drives, mental health support and other resources for those in need.
The Franklin Local School District is accepting donations at the Philo High School, according to Superintendent Dr. Kacey Cottrill. This includes school supplies, clothing, shoes, hygiene items, diapers and anything the district’s students and families may need. Cottrill also said the district partners with Allwell Behavioral Health Services, which provides mental health services. Families and individuals can contact them by calling 740-454-9766 during business hours or call its 24-hour crisis hotline at 1-800-344-5818.
Franklin Local’s first day of school was schedule for Aug. 12. Cottrill said there is no definite date for students to return to school and the district will take it day by day.
Other ways to help
● Hawaiian TanFastic is collecting Walmart and Kroger gift cards, toiletries, pet supplies and school supplies at its two locations, 3568 Maple Ave. and 141 N. Maysville Ave.
● The VFW on Moxahala Avenue is accepting donations of hygiene items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, diapers and baby wipes, laundry detergent, flashlights, portable phone chargers and new clothing, towels and blankets.
● The Bid Lodge on Old Somerset Road in New Lexington is collecting cases of bottled water, nonperishable food and gift cards.
● Imlay Florist at 54 N. Fifth St. is accepting donations of cleaning supplies, hygiene items and school supplies.
● Lowe’s associates in Zanesville will distribute more than 230 buckets filled with sponges, flashlights, bottled water, trash bags, goggles and hand sanitizer to help those impacted by the flooding at 10 a.m. Aug. 13, at the store.
● Academy Sports + Outdoors in Zanesville will distribute 1,500 cases of bottled water in 24-packs starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 14, a from truck in the parking lots.
● Zemba Companies is collecting toiletries, bottled water, pet food, cleaning supplies, nonperishable food and gift cards.
● The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties has partnered with North Valley Bank, which will accept donations at all branches. Needed items include nonperishable food, personal care items, water, cleaning supplies and diapers. The United Way has also established a flood relief fund.
