Columbus-founded Hot Chicken Takeover has closed its Clintonville shop at 4203 N. High St. A social media post from the business announced the closure on July 30.
The message read in part, “Closing this shop was a tough call, but it’s part of a bigger plan to keep growing the right way: with heart, intention, and the kind of hospitality HCT is known for.”

Founded by Joe DeLoss as a pop-up restaurant in Olde Town East in 2014, Hot Chicken Takeover began with the mission of helping adults transitioning out of prison and overcoming other barriers to entering the workforce, eventually growing to seven Columbus-area restaurants.
The business was purchased by Untamed Brands in 2021, which was then acquired by Craveworthy Brands in 2024. The restaurant’s Easton location closed in March and a Powell location closed in January. Shops remain in Gahanna, Grandview, Westerville and at the North Market.
