CANTON — Haynes King provided one of the most memorable endings to a Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, Aug. 6.
He led the Panthers to a 33-30 win in the game that kicks off the National Football League preseason by scrambling to a touchdown on the final play of the game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
The former Georgia Tech star drove the Panthers down the field in the final two minutes, trailing by three points, 30-27, after the Cardinals had gone ahead.
With no overtime in NFL preseason games, the Panthers had the ball at the Arizona 5 with 2 seconds left and went for the win and not the tie.
King dropped back to pass, saw an opening in the middle of the field, scrambled toward the goal line, pump-faked a throw and then tucked the ball before diving into the end zone for the winning TD. His Carolina teammates quickly mobbed him on the field.
