Fairfield Medical Center President and CEO John “Jack” Janoso Jr. has resigned upon completion of a pending agreement with Adena Health, the health system announced Aug. 11.
Janoso became the leader of the Lancaster-based rural health system in September 2014, according to a press statement from the hospital. He has not announced an official departure date and intends to remain with the organization through the transition.
“Over the past 12 years, it has been a true privilege to serve in this role and I have valued the opportunity to work alongside a team of people who are committed to delivering high-quality, personalized care,” Janoso said in the prepared release. “I believe this proposed partnership with Adena Health is the path we are meant to follow. I have seen passion, heart, character, and tenacity that gives me great comfort and respect for their vision of Adena Health and FMC – together. They understand what this hospital means to our community, and I am confident they will honor our legacy while helping us reach even greater heights.”
Fairfield Medical Center and Chillicothe-based Adena Health announced June 1 that they had signed a “nonbinding letter of intent” to see if a formal affiliation will benefit them both.
Fairfield Medical Center has been seeking this kind of partnership since at least 2024.
In 2024, OhioHealth appeared to be the best candidate and was in talks to acquire Fairfield Medical Center until at least November 2025. The possible merger was endorsed by both health systems’ boards.
An OhioHealth spokesperson told The Dispatch on June 1 that “regulatory hurdles” impeded a partnership with Fairfield Medical Center, but they “fully support Fairfield’s decision to move forward with another partner and remain appreciative of their collaboration.”
