Coroner confirms Columbus man, woman died in murder-suicide shooting on city's East Side

The Franklin County Coroner ruled that a man and woman found dead on Columbus’ East Side died in a murder-suicide.

Renita Hilson-Ziegler, 58, and Anthony Martin, 64, were found shot to death on the afternoon of May 12 inside a home on the 400 block of South Hampton Road.

Martin shot and killed Hilson-Ziegler before turning the gun on himself, Columbus police said. Investigators said they found a gun at the scene near one of the bodies.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A family member called the police after checking on Hilson-Ziegler and Martin because they hadn’t heard from them in some time, police said.

Neither the coroner’s report nor the police say what relationship existed between Hilson-Ziegler and Martin.
