Congressional candidate arrested at central Ohio 'No Kings' rally

A congressional candidate was arrested by Grove City police at a “No Kings” rally March 28, his campaign said.

Dispatch news partner NBC4/WCMH reported that Grove City police officers arrested Don Leonard, who is running to represent Ohio’s 15th district in the House of Representatives, after he spoke to protesters with a bullhorn.

Video obtained by NBC4 showed Leonard standing on the bed of a truck during a Grove City ‘No Kings’ protest the afternoon of March 28.

A pair of Grove City police officers approached him and asked to speak with him, NBC4 reported. Leonard walked a short distance away with them, and one of the officers in the footage took the bullhorn.

Leonard told the crowd the bullhorn was taken because he was being too loud, the footage shows, according to NBC4. The footage shows an officer then asked Leonard to walk over to his cruiser; Leonard refused, and was taken into custody and placed in the back of a police vehicle, NBC4 reported.

Leonard’s campaign confirmed to NBC4 that Leonard was arrested, but couldn’t say what charges he was facing.

Leonard is a Democrat running for Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Mike Carey. He will first face former Ohio State Representative Adam Miller in a May 5 primary.

As of March 29, no charges had been filed against Leonard in the Franklin County Municipal Court.
