Kaden Davis, Martin Emerson Jr. return to field after brief check

The Browns had a crisp 70-minute practice on Saturday morning. A large percentage of it was various red-zone work, either in seven-on-seven or 11-on-11.

However, there were two instances where there were scares with players needing to go to the locker room with the training staff. Both occasions, though, the player was back on the field shortly after and and participating in drills.

Wide receiver Kaden Davis went to the locker room after being hit by linebacker Devin Bush on the first seven-on-seven play of the morning. Davis, though, was only in the locker room for a short time before he returned.

Cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. walked off after the Browns’ finished their first 11-on-11 with a trainer. He was almost immediately back on the field when they went into red-zone work.

Browns put on pads starting with July 28 practice

The Browns ramp up when they return from the day off. Monday’s practice will mark the first one in which they can wear pads.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said he was looking to try and maximize the days in pads, within the letter of the rules.

“We’ll be in pads on Monday and then you can be in pads,” Stefanski said. “I believe the rule is you can’t be in three days in a row, so we’ll be smart about it. I do think that it’s important next step for the team there maximum there is, but I don’t know that. It’s not like the old days.”

Kevin Stefanski mum on potential changes to QB rotation after off day

The Browns have a day off on Sunday. However, the coaching staff will be huddling up to discuss the next steps, particularly in the four-way quarterback competition.

Coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t say whether or not major changes to the snap distribution could be forthcoming when the Browns return to the practice field on July 28.

“It remains to be seen,” Stefanski said. “I think we still need to rep everybody and get everybody ready for the preseason, for the season. So I want to get through today’s practice and take in all the information, see how guys are performing at all positions and then that’s when we kind of get into the nitty gritty of who’s going where and with what groups. I can’t promise you anything on Monday. We’ll see how it looks.”

Jerome Ford, Michael Woods II, Teven Jenkins, Tony Brown II remain out

Four Browns players who have missed at least one practice recently remain out as the team heads into a day off on Sunday. Coach Kevin Stefanski said running back Jerome Ford, wide receiver Michael Woods II, guard Teven Jenkins and cornerback Tony Brown II all remain sidelined for the time being.

Ford has been out all of training camp with a “minor” undisclosed injury, while Woods has missed three days with a hand injury. Jenkins and Brown both missed Friday as well as Saturday.

Stefanski didn’t think Jenkins or Brown were dealing with major injury.

Kevin Stefanski says Browns ‘dodged a bullet’ with Cedric Tillman injury

The Browns held their breath on July 25 when wide receiver Cedric Tillman remained down after a red-zone seven-on-seven play. He eventually got up and walked with a member of the training staff to the locker room with what was called a “lower leg” injury.

Tillman, according to Kevin Stefanski, was expected to practice on Saturday.

“He’ll be out here today, so I think we dodged a bullet there,” Stefanski said before practice.
