Celebrate America 250 with these local holiday events

The Fourth of July holiday has special significance this year with the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Locally, several communities have Fourth of July or America 250 events scheduled over the next couple of weeks.

Here is a selection of events:

Amanda

The village will celebrate 250 years of American pride with a Meet Your Neighbors Potluck Block Party from noon to 2 p.m. at the village garage, 107 Kirby Street. The village will provide hot dogs, chips, water and desserts. Residents are encouraged to bring a favorite side dish, additional desserts and a dish to share.

In addition to the party, a community litter clean-up will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 4. Meet at the Village Office, 116 E. Main Street. The village will provide trash bags and gloves. Participants will be cleaning town streets, village park, bike path, entrances into town, and other public areas.

Bremen

Events happening in Bremen from June 30 through July 5.

Buckeye Lake

The Buckeye Lake Area Star Spangled Tradition (BLAAST) returns July 3 with its fireworks show.

The Fourth of July boat parade will take place at 11 a.m. at Leibs Island. This year’s theme is patriotic.

The Buckeye Lake region has also been decorated in celebration of America 250 and residents can vote for their favorite businesses and residences in each of the four lake-area communities from July 4 through July 12. The winners will be announced on July 13.

Lancaster

The Fourth of July parade will step off at 10 a.m., and it will travel a U-shaped route from the fairgrounds → south on N. Columbus St → east on Main St → north on N. Broad St → back to fairgrounds.

The city will open up the time capsule that was buried in 1976 for America’s bicentennial as part of its America 250 events. It will be opened at 1:30 p.m. July 4 at the downtown Lancaster bandstand.

Fireworks will take place at dusk.

Millersport

On June 28, an America 250 celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Veterans Park. There will be a car show (with registration beginning at 10 a.m.) with commemorative dash plaques going to the first 50 registered vehicles.

The village will also hold a rededication for the Millersport time capsule.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Perfect Timing Band and food will include Poppy’s Food Truck and and Weldon’s Ice Cream.

Pickerington

Fireworks will be launched at 10 p.m. from Pickerington High School Central.

The America 250 Celebration will take place from noon to 5 p.m. July 4 in the Elevate District. Live music, food and drink vendors will be a part of the celebration. The day will include a 10 a.m. parade.

Rushvillle

The Roots of Liberty: Rush Creek Park Dedication will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 27 in Rushville. The event will include the dedication of the new Liberty Tree for the park. A food truck, bounce house and more are a part of the dedication of the new park.

Sugar Grove

The Stars & Stripes Festival will take place June 26 and 27. On June 26, beginning at 5 p.m. will be a craft vendor fair, Chicketti Family Amusements rides, raffles, and the Savings Bank Family Fun Tent. From 5 to 7 p.m. will be a pie contest drop off and from 5 to 9 p.m. a car show.

The Little Mister and Miss Firecracker Content and the crowning of Miss Stars and Stripes and court will be at 6 p.m. June 26.

The Notalgics will take the stage from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by Cross Threat from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 26.

On June 27, the grand parade will take place at noon. Following the parade will be the craft vendors and amusement rides, as well as the raffles. The Savings Bank Family Fun tent will open at 5 p.m. and, from 6 to 9 p.m. will be roaming circus acts.
