Black stripe alert! Another Ohio State freshman has shed his black stripe and has been officially welcomed to the Brotherhood, this time being five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair.
Coming out of Bellefontaine, the Ohio native was ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 4 overall player in the nation. According to 247Sports Director of Scouting, Andrew Ivins, St. Clair draws comparisons to another former Buckeye great, Justin Fields. He was an early enrollee at OSU and has been taking most of the scout team reps to help prepare the defense for upcoming contests.
It may be a while before we see St. Clair in meaningful game action. Current starter and former five-star quarterback Julian Sayin has been as good as advertised, maybe even better. Sayin is only a Sophomore and will have at least one more year in Scarlet and Gray before St. Clair would get an opportunity to shine. Sayin was the No. 3-ranked quarterback in the 2024 class.
St. Clair is sitting as the third-string quarterback on the depth chart, but there is no doubt he is Ohio State’s future. Ryan Day has been quoted as saying the coaches are doing everything they can to get him reps in practice because he’s “just two snaps away from playing,” meaning if injuries were to happen, they want him ready to go as much as possible.
St. Clair has only seen action in one game thus far in the season, a 70-0 blowout over Grambling State, which means he is likely headed for a redshirt freshman season.
