A Webster man was rescued after falling through the ice while fishing on Sodus Bay in the Town of Huron, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Fisherman falls through ice on Sodus Bay
Deputies responding to the scene found Imre Ulci, 57, partially submerged in the water about 100 yards west of Owens Shore on Sodus Bay.
Authorities said Ulci had been ice fishing when the ice gave way beneath him.
First responders carry out rescue
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said first responders were able to make contact with Ulci while preparing for the rescue.
Five volunteers from the Alton Fire Department used an airboat to reach Ulci on the ice. They were able to pull him from the water and transport him safely back to shore, where emergency personnel were waiting.
Taken to hospital for treatment
Ulci was taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.
No additional details about his condition were immediately released.
