Two inmates have been accused of assaulting corrections officers at the Auburn Correctional Facility in Cayuga County in 2024.
According to New York State Police, Errol Fowler-Graham, 34, and Shaquan Brown, 33, were each charged with three counts of second-degree assault (injure person while confined in a correctional facility and three counts of second-degree assault with intent to cause injury to an officer, all felonies.
The charges stemmed from a Aug. 21, 2024 incident at the Auburn Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison for men, when multiple corrections officers were injured during an assault “during inmate movement within the facility,” troopers said via news release. The injured officers were taken to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment. One officer was unable to work due to injuries, troopers said.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, in coordination with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, conducted the investigation. The case was presented to a grand jury, which returned indictments, according to State Police.
Fowler-Graham is currently an inmate at Five Points Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison in Seneca County, and Shaquan Brown is an inmate at Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison in Chautauqua County, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Fowler-Graham is roughly halfway through a 32-year prison term for a robbery and rape conviction out of Erie County, according to DOCCS records. Brown is partway through a 18 to 21 year sentence for a burglary, assault and grand larceny conviction out of New York County.
Both men were arraigned in Cayuga County Court on Tuesday, Jan. 13 and were returned to custody, according to State Police.
