Popular Mexican restaurant announces closure of Rochester location

The popular Mexican restaurant Old Pueblo Grill is closing its original location at 55 Russell St. in the Neighborhood of the Arts, announcing on Facebook that its lease has come to an end.

Its location in Baytowne Plaza in Penfield will remain open. (It is near the border with Webster and has a Webster mailing address.)

Owner Joe Zolnierowski opened the first Old Pueblo Grill in 2018. Its menu, which emphasized tacos and burritos, was influenced by the Sonoran-style Mexican fare that’s popular in Zolnierowski’s home state of Arizona. The second location, in the HighPoint development in Victor, opened in 2023; it closed earlier this year.

The Penfield location, called Old Pueblo Grill Cantina, was the first to offer table service and a full bar. Its setup is unique in that the majority of its menu is cooked in a food truck housed in the restaurant.

The restaurant did not respond to inquiries for more information, including a closing date.
