Cam Skattebo’s backfipping days are over. The New York Giants’ second-year running back, who is coming back from a gruesome season-ending ankle injury, will no longer be taking unnecessary chances with his body.
Speaking to the media after the Giants’ third day of practice at their 2026 training camp down in West Virginia, Skattebo told reporters he is changing his ways after conversations with head coach John Harbaugh.
Harbaugh and the Giants became alarmed after Skattebo recently did a bakflip during an appearance at the Fanatics Fest in New York City two weeks ago. Both Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen kidded about the incident, but it’s clear the stunt has run its course with them.
Skattebo then said, “Would I do that backflip again? Probably not.”
“He’s a young man that’s still getting used to the spotlight and in New York City and you got to be conscious of your actions, not only from a health standpoint, but a perception standpoint,” Schoen said at the outset of training camp this week. “But he knows I’d rather him not do that, especially this close to camp. But also a testament to how good of a job our training staff did and medical staff did in terms of getting him back and ready to go here as we start camp.”
“Skatt and I have had, I don’t know, five, six really good conversations since he got back. That might have been talked about in there with some other stuff,” Harabugh said about the backflip incident. “It’s just part of the ongoing process, just communication, being on the same page, trying to be the best we can be in everything we do. He’s great. He wants to be great. He listens and talks and tells you what he thinks. It’s all good.”
