With the second week of training camp in the books, the New York Giants have returned to East Rutherford after a demanding stretch of practices in West Virginia. Longer sessions and increased intensity provided clearer evaluations of roster battles under head coach John Harbaugh, prompting further adjustments to the 53-man projection.
This updated outlook accounts for the physical and competitive demands of Week 2 while continuing to reflect Harbaugh’s preference for versatile, special-teams contributors and positional depth. Practices grew more physical, offering better insight into how players handle contact and sustained workloads.
The team resumes work Monday in New Jersey, but the current snapshot captures the strongest consensus following two full weeks of camp.
Quarterbacks (2)
As noted in the previous 53-man projection, nothing is going to change here barring injury. Jaxson Dart, who looked better over the final few practices in West Virginia, is entrenched as the starter and Jameis Winston as his backup.
Out: Brandon Allen
Running backs (4)
Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary, and Patrick Ricard remain slotted in for roster spots. Bankston is making some noise, and Miller continues to draw praise from his teammates, but both are on the outside looking in.
Out: Eric Gray, Damon Bankston, Dante Miller, Grant Finley
Wide receivers (7)
Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, Malachi Fields, and Calvin Austin III are essentially roster locks at this point. Odell Beckham Jr. also remains in, and he did quite a bit to help his chances in Week 2. The final spot is incredibly competitive, but Dalen Cambre has leapfrogged Berrios. For now.
Out: Braxton Berrios, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Isaiah Hodgins, Jalin Hyatt, Xavier Gipson, Ryan Miller
Tight ends (3)
Isaiah Likely, Theo Johnson, and Chris Manhertz again get the call here. I’m still waffling over adding a fourth tight end, but will stick with three for now. On the bubble, Conner has stepped ahead of Fidone.
Out: Tanner Conner, Thomas Fidone II
Offensive line (9)
Andrew Thomas, Jon Runyan Jr., John Michael Schmitz, Francis Mauigoa, Jermaine Eluemunor, Marcus Mbow, Daniel Faalele, and J.C. Davis are the holdovers from the past two 53-man roster projections. The change this week comes in the form of Bryan Hudson, who flashed on the third team and then handled first-team reps with JMS and Patrick ailing.
Out: Aaron Stinnie, Josh Ezeudu, Lucas Patrick (knee), Evan Neal, Jake Kubas, Ryan Schernecke, Jarrod Gray, Brenden Jaimes
Defensive line (5)
D.J. Reader, Darius Alexander, Shelby Harris, Leki Fotu, and Bobby Jamison-Travis are still the choices along the defensive line. However, the Giants could go with four and attempt to stash Jamison-Travis on the practice squad.
Out: Josh Tupou, Sam Roberts, Zacch Pickens, Marlon Davidson, Anquin Barnes Jr.
Outside linebackers (4)
Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Chauncey Golston will likely remain the four outside linebackers throughout camp and into the preseason. It’s hard to envision the Giants using a roster spot on a fifth.
Out: Trace Ford, Khalid Kareem, Caleb Murphy
Inside linebackers (5)
Tremaine Edmunds, Arvell Reese, Micah McFadden, and Jack Kelly currently lead the way with one potential roster spot remaining. In the past, that has gone to Muasau, but over the past week, Zaire Barnes has flashed on defense as well as special teams. He now gets the call.
Out: Darius Muasau, Anfernee Orji
Cornerbacks (6)
Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome II, Dru Phillips, Deonte Banks, Colton Hood, and Art Green are still the picks at cornerback and, at this point, it’s hard to envision that changing. Injuries to the depth have forced some shakeups, but nothing that will likely impact roster spots on the 53.
Out: Korie Black, Nic Jones, David Long Jr., D.J. James
Safeties (5)
Jevon Holland, Tyler Nubin, Ar’Darius Washington, Jason Pinnock, and Elijah Campbell get the nod, as little has changed at the safety position. If they carry five guys, these will likely be the names. If they trim it to four, Campbell could be the one to receive walking papers.
Out: Beau Brade, Raheem Layne
Specialists (3)
Dominic Zvada (K), Jordan Stout (P), and Ben Mann (LS) will be the names here. Sauls is still very much competing, but Zvada has begun to dominate.
