Congressman Joe Morelle highlighted rising costs impacting Rochester families at a May 6 press conference and explained how he’s fighting back against President Donald Trump’s policies and actions.
“Donald Trump has confiscated the White House; he has turned the power of the presidency into something that enriches him, not the American people, not working families who are struggling in this moment, not for democracy, but for himself,” Morelle said.
The congressman said Trump has committed tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to the war in Iran, has threatened programs that families rely on and is undermining voting rights protections.
The Democrat and Chronicle reached out to the Monroe County Republican Committee and is awaiting a response.
Morelle is taking several steps to ensure voting rights are protected and democratic institutions are upheld, he said:
“In this moment when Americans are so concerned about what is happening in their government, I think the issue of corruption has become one of the central issues of our time,” Morelle said. “The sovereign in America isn’t a monarch, isn’t a king; it’s the people and the people ultimately render verdicts, we have to listen to them.”
