Monticello man charged with rape, imprisonment of woman in the village

MONTICELLO – A Monticello man was accused Feb. 10 of raping and imprisoning a woman.

Village of Monticello police said they were alerted to the situation by the neighboring Village of Liberty police. Liberty police said they received information that a woman was being held against her will and sexually assaulted at a residence in the Village of Monticello.

A joint investigation by the two police departments, with assistance from the Sullivan County District Attorney’s office, led to the arrest of James Delbert Caston, 54, of Monticello.

Caston was charged with five counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree unlawful imprisonment and one count of second-degree strangulation, all felonies; and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor.

Caston was arraigned before Monticello Village Justice Douglas Solomon and sent to the Sullivan County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $150,000 cash bail, $300,000 bail bond or $600,000 partially secured bond, pending further court action.

The name of Caston’s attorney was not immediately available.
