A Tompkins County economic development agency has tapped a candidate with more than three decades of experience to serve as its new president.
Ithaca Area Economic Development (IAED), a public-private partnership that fosters economic growth and prosperity in Tompkins County and the Southern Tier region, announced the appointment of Kurt Foreman following a nationwide search.
Since 2018, Foreman has led the Delaware Prosperity Partnership as president and CEO, helping position the state as a premier business destination and attracting more than $3.5 billion in capital investment and creation or retention of 11,000 jobs, according to an IAED news release.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kurt to Ithaca, Tompkins County, and IAED,” said Jodi Lee Denman, chair of the IAED board of directors. “His proven experience and leadership ability will help guide our organization as we continue to evolve and bolster the local economy.”
Foreman’s experience includes economic development leadership roles in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and the Washington D.C. metro area. He was also formerly an executive recruiter with a leading global search firm supporting senior-level placements across industries.
Forman is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and earned his master’s degree in business from Wake Forest University.
“After a comprehensive search process, Foreman emerged as the ideal candidate to lead IAED into its next chapter,” said former board member Greg Hartz, who chaired the search committee that worked with executive recruitment firm Jorgenson Pace.
