How much influence will New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart have on the team’s future coaching staff hires? It might be more than usual for a young player.
Dart’s stellar play and his poise at such an early stage in his career have earned him a seat at the table on some of the team’s big-ticket decisions. One of those will be the head coach and the subsequent staff.
The Giants are going to try to find compatible matches for Dart when it comes to coaches.
“It’s going to be important that there’s a plan in terms of Jaxson’s development, holding people accountable, and communication,” general manager Joe Schoen said on Monday when asked how much input Dart will have in the decision process.
“He might meet somebody, but I don’t know about input. I love him, but he’s 22 years old or 23, whatever he is, and he’s got one year in the league. Could he potentially meet a candidate? Sure, but we’ll make the decision ultimately.”
Finding coaches who want to work with Dart shouldn’t be much of a problem.
“There are a lot of potential head coaching candidates that are excited about the opportunity here because of Jaxson Dart,” Schoen added.
One such head coaching possibility is Kevin Stefanski, a two-time Coach of the Year who was let go by the Cleveland Browns on Monday. Dart commented on Stefanski to reporters on Monday.
“Coach Stefanski was great. He’s had a really good career, especially from an offensive side of things,” Dart said. “I thought the visit with him and his staff really went well, and I think he’s a really good coach.”
One possible assistant the Giants could consider bringing in is Dart’s former offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, Charlie Weis Jr.
Dart flourished under Weis in Oxford, throwing for 10,617 yards and 72 touchdowns with 1,498 rushing yards and 12 more scores on the ground in his three seasons there.
In his four seasons as Lane Kiffin’s OC, Weis’ offense finished third or better in total offense in the SEC and led the league in offense in both 2024 and 2025. He has recently moved to LSU along with Kiffin.
But the door is always open in this business for good coaches, especially ones who are coveted by star players.

The opportunity to reunite with Dart, the Giants’ first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, could be too appealing to pass up for Weis, whose father, Charlie Weis Sr., has a long history of coaching in the NFL. Weis Sr. has a longstanding relationship with the Giants’ ownership after getting his professional start in New York under legendary head coach Bill Parcells in 1990.
Weis isn’t feeding into the rumors and has basically tried to cool them. He is comfortable with his college gig and reportedly has a three-year, $7.5 million deal waiting for him in Baton Rouge.
“I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU,” he told On3.
It would take a sweet deal to lure him into changing his plans, but if any player can do it, it’s likely to be Jaxson Dart.
