Clinton-based Indium Corporation’s summer internship program, now in its 14th year, welcomed 14 students from four countries and 13 colleges and universities to its headquarters.
Eight of the interns are from the Mohawk Valley – where Indium employs approximately 1,000 people – and students from both Utica University and SUNY Polytechnic Institute were among this summer’s intern class.
For the past 10 weeks, the students designed and engaged in a custom experience based upon their academic and professional goals in engineering, research and development, finance, marketing, human resources, and other fields.
In a statement announcing the intern class, Indium credited them with “bringing diverse perspectives that both sparked new ways of thinking and strengthened the company’s unique culture.”
This year’s intern group was the first to engage in the do-it-yourself internship experience was piloted by Indium last year.
The structure allowed students to design a personalized development plan based on their individual career interests and then work on projects contributing directly to Indium goals.
The company’s internship program is open to both undergraduates and graduate students, with applications accepted in the fall for the following summer.
Inium was founded in 1934 in Utica and is a materials refiner, smelter, manufacturer, and supplier to the global electronics, semiconductor, thin-film, and thermal management markets.
