Breece Hall name Jets' make-or-break player for 2025

New York Jets running back Breece Hall fell short of expectations last season. The third-year rusher failed to take the desired step forward. Instead of becoming the Jets’ featured bellcow back, Hall rushed for 876 yards and five touchdowns, failing to outproduce his 2023 totals.

Rookie running back Braelon Allen earned 92 carries, rushing for 334 yards. It occasionally felt like Allen and Hall formed a tandem in the backfield. That’s not what Hall envisioned in what was supposed to be a breakout campaign.

Hall is now entering a critical contract season. Pro Football Focus recently identified every team’s make-or-break player in 2025. Unsurprisingly for the Jets, they chose Hall.

“Hall has been the subject of criticism and trade rumors this offseason,” Dalton Wasserman wrote. “Head coach Aaron Glenn recently shot the latter down, but Hall still needs a bounce-back campaign to secure a long-term future in New York. Hall fumbled six times and dropped eight passes. There is a chance that he is a dynamic playmaker in a new offense, but there may be an equal chance that 2025 is his last season in New York.”

Hall will appreciate an opportunity to work with a new coaching staff in East Rutherford this season. A fresh start was desperately needed. Hall’s upcoming make-or-break campaign will ultimately decide if he’s a New York Jet beyond 2025.
