All-state selections Levi Stambaugh of Mason, Christian Chiou of Okemos and Alma’s Gracie Mellinger are among the Greater Lansing standouts slated to play in the 12th annual Capital Area High School Basketball All-Star Games on Wednesday, June 18 at Waverly High School.
The annual event showcasing some of the area’s top recent high school graduates will feature the girls all-star game at 6 p.m. and the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
Chiou, Stambaugh, Stockbridge’s Shannon Henderson and Foster Pybus, Okemos’ Christian Pickens, Portland’s Evan Gross, Everett’s Nizjai Davidson, Pewamo-Westphalia’s Reece Thelen, Sexton’s Troy Bell and Lansing Christian’s Ethan Damesworth make up one of the rosters for a boys team coached by P-W’s Dominic Schneider.
The other boys roster features JL Branson from Division 1 state champion East Lansing, Waverly’s DeShawnta Malone, Eastern’s Myles Edmond, Fowlerville’s Wyatt Soli, Alma’s Owen Seeley, Ovid-Elsie’s Tucker Loynes, Lansing Catholic’s Drew Tolfree, Fowler’s Aaron Simon, Morrice’s Logan Smith and Portland St. Patrick’s Brayden Simon. Waverly’s Rod Watts will coach the team.
In the girls game, Mellinger is part of roster that includes Jocelyn Kotowicz and Paityn Chant of St. Johns, Waverly’s LaDraya Worthy and Zarianna Carnegia, East Lansing’s Ariyah Mendenhall, Navaeh Vasquez, Maeve Hadden and Maddox Guerrant and Holt’s Genevieve Nagel. Waverly’s Sidney Droughns will serve as the team’s coach.
The other squad features Leslie’s Reece DeRose, Ella Locke and Lily Smieska, Fulton’s Kaya Canfield and Jaci Canfield, Bath’s Aubri Torok, Ionia’s Aubree White and Perry’s Abigail Cochrane. The team will be coached by Eastern’s Tim Wells.
Admission is $10 and kids age 5 and under are free.
