Emergency responders are working to recover a body from the Genesee River gorge in Rochester on Wednesday.
Police and firefighters were called around 10:15 a.m. to the Pont de Rennes Bridge near High Falls after a body was found beneath the bridge, said Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department.
Identification, cause of death pending
Authorities said the body is that of an adult.
Once recovered, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the person’s identity and cause of death, Bello said. Further details were not immediately released.
Investigation underway
Authorities are investigating the death. It was not immediately clear how the person ended up in the gorge.The Pont de Rennes Bridge is an 858-foot pedestrian span over the Genesee River gorge, connecting Brown’s Race and Cataract Street. It stands about 114 feet above the river and overlooks the 96-foot Upper Falls.
Officials said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
