Village of Alfred police say a number of people were injured Tuesday, July 21 in a head-on motor vehicle crash in Alfred.
According to police, the collision took place at approximately 10:57 a.m. on state Route 244 just past the Hamilton Road Extension.
Alfred Police Chief Joshua VanSkiver said responding officers reported that multiple individuals involved in the crash were injured and required medical attention.
Police did not immediately comment on the seriousness of the injuries, but confirmed several people were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
A portion of state Route 244 was closed temporarily while emergency personnel treated the injured, investigated the crash and cleared the roadway, VanSkiver said.
The Alfred Station Fire Department, Alfred Ambulance, Medical Transport Service (MTS), Andover Ambulance and the Alfred University Police Department all responded and assisted at the scene, the police chief added.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
On July 22, Alfred Police said that a 2017 Hyundai, driven by Keegan M. Bradley, 32, of Hornell crossed the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Police said all of the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. The names of the occupants have not been released.
Investigators allege that Bradley was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash.
Bradley was charged with first-degree vehicular assault and first-degree reckless endangerment, both class D felonies, and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Bradley was processed by the Alfred Police Department and transported to the Allegany County Jail, where he was held pending arraignment.
The Alfred Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist investigators to contact the department at 607-587-8878.
The Allegany County village is home to both Alfred University and Alfred State College.
