As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2026 NFL season, Bills Wire will take a look at the most important contributors on their roster. The team has some cornerstone players who will be returning for another shot at bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo, and they’ll have help from some new additions as well.
Leading up to the season, we will be counting down the top-30 most important players on the roster. We’ll recap their 2025 season, look ahead to what they’ll offer in 2026, and tackle the most pressing questions surrounding them this coming year.
Next on the countdown is T.J. Parker.
Background
Position: Edge defender
Age at start of season: 21
Experience: Rookie
2026 cap hit: $2,389,226
2025 recap
Parker produced five sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, and three received fumbles as a junior last season at Clemson. That was coming off of a dominant 2024 season where he racked up 11 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss, and six forced fumbles. A lot of the drop in production from his breakout in 2024 can be attributed to a change in defensive scheme.
2026 outlook
The Bills are looking for Parker to help out in year one as a rotational edge defender after being an early second-round pick (35 overall) in April. He has the opportunity to learn from established veterans ahead of him on the depth chart like Greg Rousseau and Bradley Chubb, among others.
Biggest question: How will he adjust to a new scheme?
Parker played as an edge rusher in a traditional 4-3 scheme at Clemson, but he will be asked to play as a stand-up edge defender (outside linebacker) in defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard’s 3-4 system. Bills GM Brandon Beane sees Parker as a key piece for the future of this new Bills defense. After drafting him, Beane said, “The flashes are really good of a three-down player that will stick his face in there and play the run but is athletically explosive enough to help you in the pass rush.”
