A 19-year-old Astoria man was killed Sunday evening in a one-motorcycle crash on the Wantagh State Parkway, New York State Police said.
The crash happened at about 5:05 p.m. on the northbound parkway just south of Goose Neck Bridge.
Motorcycle strikes guide rail
State Police said Dario Marsalek, 19, was driving a 2014 Suzuki motorcycle north on the Wantagh State Parkway when he struck a guide rail.
Marsalek and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. Marsalek came to rest in the roadway, while the passenger landed in a grassy area along the right shoulder.
Driver dies, passenger in critical condition
Both were taken to a local hospital, where Marsalek was pronounced dead, police said.
The passenger remained in critical condition.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
