Iowa Speedway announced two big pieces of news on Aug. 6 in advance of this weekend’s Iowa Corn 350.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return for a fourth straight season in 2027 on July 4 weekend.
And the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet” will undergo a full repave following the Aug. 9 race in Newton.
NASCAR’s premier series once seemed like a pipe dream for Iowa Speedway, a 7/8-mile circuit. But now the Cup Series is starting to become a staple. Ryan Blaney won the inaugural Cup race in 2024, and William Byron took the checkered flag in 2025.
This weekend’s Iowa Corn 350, which was announced as a sellout on Aug. 6, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and will air on the USA Network.
“From the moment NASCAR returned to Iowa Speedway, fans have embraced this event in an incredible way with three consecutive NASCAR Cup Series sellouts,” Iowa Speedway president Eric Peterson said in a statement. “Moving to Fourth of July weekend and competing on a brand-new racing surface is an exciting next chapter for our fans, our partners and the entire state of Iowa.”
Iowa Speedway announced its 2027 race weekend for July 2-4 (Friday through Sunday), with the ARCA Menards Series on July 2, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series on July 3 and the Cup Series on July 4.
Iowa’s racing surface became a major storyline in 2024, as corners of the track had been resurfaced with asphalt and other parts were left alone. The track, which is owned by NASCAR, getting a full repave seems like a good sign that the venue could be a Cup Series destination for years to come.
