It’s America’s 250th birthday, and the Iowa State Fair has a slew of one-off events and experiences to celebrate the history of the nation. Of course, there are special Iowa flairs, not least of which includes a 1776 pork salute.
While you’re gnawing on a free pork chop, check out the new exhibits at the fair for America’s anniversary.
What are the new exhibits at the Iowa State Fair for America 250?
The Spirit of 1776: A history exhibit explains what Iowa’s connection to the Revolutionary War is. Find it at the East Marketplace in the Grandstand.
250 Years of American Flags display: Located between Pioneer Hall and Grandfather’s Barn, there are 250 American flags, each representing one year of America’s existence. Each flag also shows the original flag design for that year.
Iowa Veteran’s Walkway: A soothing green space honors Iowa veterans across the First Church sidewalk leading up to Expo Hill. There, you’ll find plaques representing every war or conflict in which Iowans served.
Official 250 American Tree: A bur oak, the state tree of Iowa, was freshly planted between the Administration Building and the Bill and Riley Talent Stage. It may be just a sapling now, but it will eventually grow to become a sturdy tree.
Legacy Sculpture: Created by Dan Perry, an art professor at the University of Northern Iowa, the legacy sculpture is a permanent addition to the fairgrounds. See it in the Ruan Plaza circle by the giant slide.
