Much of central Indiana remained inundated on Aug. 17 after days of severe storms led to historic flooding, forcing evacuations and water rescues throughout the region.
Officials had reported at least seven storm-related deaths at the time of publication. More than 300,000 throughout the state lost power, according to Gov. Mike Braun. President Donald Trump approved an emergency declaration, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to work with local and state officials on recovery efforts.
The National Weather Service warned that “rapid onset flash flooding” remains a possibility through Sunday, Aug. 23, as even more rain is expected to fall in already-drenched communities.
