MONTICELLO, IN — A crash between a semi fully loaded with grain and a Nissan sports utility vehicle killed 42-year-old Naomi Spann of Lafayette, who was a passenger in the SUV, according to authorities.
The accident happened about 6:20 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of White County Roads 300 West and 600 South, which is west of Chalmers, White County sheriff’s Chief Deputy David Roth said.
The van was driven by Orrin A. Spann, 47, of Lafayette, and Naomi Spann was a passenger in his SUV, Roth said.
The semi and its trailer were driven by Dean Huseman, 70, of Brookston, Roth said.
Huseman was not injured in the accident, Roth said.
The Spanns were rushed to a Lafayette hospital, where the woman died from her injuries, Costello said.
Roth did not know Orrin Spann’s condition.
A forensic pathologist performed an autopsy Monday, and preliminary results indicate that Naomi Spann died from blunt force injuries and the manner of death is accident.
