Losantville man charged with DWI after crash that injured woman

NEW CASTLE, IN — A Losantville man is accused of causing a crash after smoking marijuana, which seriously injured another driver.

James Allen Wombold, 25, was charged on Thursday, Aug. 6, with causing serious bodily injury when driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, public intoxication, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

According to court documents, Wombold was driving a Buick on Aug. 3 when he reportedly ran a stop sign at Main and Vine streets in New Castle and collided with a GMC Terrain.

The collision left a woman driving the Terrain with a “a broken nose, a possible concussion and several superficial cuts,” a New Castle police officer wrote. Two children in the Terrain were apparently not injured.

Wombold — who was also not injured, according to the reports — told an officer “he did not have insurance on his vehicle and that he had just smoked marijuana prior to operating his vehicle,” an affidavit said.

Police reported finding marijuana and “a multi-colored marijuana smoking device” in the Buick.

Wombold — also listed in court documents at a Richmond address — was taken to Henry County Hospital for a blood draw and later delivered to the Henry County Jail. He was apparently released after posting bond.

The most serious of the charges pending against him in Henry Circuit Court 1 is a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.

Court records reflect no prior charges against Wombold.
