Chi Phi was suspended by Indiana University on Dec. 19, the last day of the fall 2025 semester.
The fraternity was previously prohibited from holding recruitment in August and placed on cease and desist for hazing in November. Now under suspension, Chi Phi is ordered to “cease and desist all activities and disband” until further notice.
The length of suspension will be decided by Dean of Students Lamar Hylton. There are currently nine other organizations on suspension at IU Bloomington, with one dating back as far as 2015. Sigma Chi was the last organization to be placed on suspension before Chi Phi, on June 13, 2025.
Seven other organizations, including the Palestine Solidarity Committee, remain on cease and desist or disciplinary status after the fall 2025 semester. In November, the Office of Student Life temporarily banned all fraternities in the IU Interfraternity Council from holding events due to concerns about hazing. IU reversed course and lifted that blanket suspension on Nov. 25.
