SPRINGFIELD – A major airline is reinstating a flight between Illinois’ capital city and the windy city.
The Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport earlier this summer made the announcement that American Airlines would be reinstating “the popular early morning departure” from SPI.
Here are a few reminders about the changes.
When is the new flight?
Starting Oct. 7, travelers will be able to fly out of Springfield, daily, at 6 a.m. to arrive at Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 7:16 a.m. via American Airlines.
What time are other flights between the cities?
Another chance to leave Springfield to go to Chicago is at 2:12 p.m., which arrives in the windy city at 3:28 p.m.
There are two daily opportunities to leave Chicago to get to Springfield. A 12:39 p.m. flight arrives in Springfield at 1:35 p.m. A 10:12 p.m. flight from Chicago arrives at 11:18 p.m.
Will flight times change again?
Yes. It was announced that in November, the afternoon flight from SPI will depart slightly later to accommodate additional connections from the west coast.
Why was the early morning flight brought back?
The return of the flight coincides with an upgrade of the aircraft for the route.
