WASHINGTON — After years of preparation, community events, a bridge makeover and even celebratory ice cream, Washington’s bicentennial week is here.
The Washington Bicentennial Committee released a full calendar of events for the weeklong festivities, which include block parties, sports events, antique car and tractor shows, art exhibits and family-friendly fun. Events will run from Aug. 14 to Aug. 23.
Here is a full slate of upcoming activities to celebrate the city’s landmark anniversary:
August 14: Rove & Ramble on the Square Bicentennial Kick-Off
The bicentennial kick-off will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Square. The event is a night of live music, food trucks and extended hours at stores around the iconic city square. Central Illinois Batman and his Batmobile will be present, and vendors will offer product samples including ice cream, popcorn, cheese and wine.
August 15: Skycentennial, baseball and block party
August 16: Parade and vintage cars
August 17: Balloons and barks
August 18: Beards and rockets
August 21: Bicentennial bites
August 22: Bicentennial bikes
August 23: The grand finale
