Second Leon sheriff's SUV involved in wreck after fatal pedestrian crash

A second Leon County Sheriff’s Office SUV was involved in a crash Saturday evening in northwest Tallahassee, less than 24 hours after another LCSO SUV struck and killed a pedestrian on the city’s west side.

Few details were immediately available about the latest crash that occurred just before 8 p.m. on the Interstate 10 off-ramp at Capital Circle Northwest.

LCSO spokespeople said the crash involved a marked Chevy Tahoe and a vehicle towing a boat. They said it appeared those involved suffered only minor injuries.

The deputy and a driver and passenger in the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

“They’re all getting checked out,” LCSO spokesperson Shonda Knight said. “We don’t know the cause of the crash or how it happened yet.”

“No fault has been determined,” according to another LCSO spokesperson, and the accident remains under investigation.

Roads around the area were closed until about 10:25 p.m. as a swarm of deputies worked the scene. Witnesses on social media reported passing a flipped over truck and boat.

“Just passed it and the boat was in the median,” one person wrote. “At least 7 LCSO cars and they are directing people through the lights. Looked very bad. Prayers for those involved.”

The crash comes a day after a reserve deputy driving a LCSO Chevrolet Tahoe struck a woman at the intersection of Ausley Road and Pensacola Street in West Tallahassee. The crash occurred at about 10:42 p.m. Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident. The woman was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, where she later died from her injuries. Authorities had not publicly identified the woman as of Saturday.

In that case, LCSO said the deputy involved was a reserve deputy, who holds full law enforcement credentials and assists with duties such as traffic details and special events. FHP said the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash remain under investigation.

No additional information about Saturday evening’s crash was immediately available. Authorities are expected to release more details once the investigation progresses.
