MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said rookie linebacker Trey Moore, who is making a strong case to start this season, will be out for “some time” after suffering an ankle injury in the 26-3 preseason loss to the New York Giants on Saturday.
“I don’t see him being back soon,” Hafley said. “I’m not sure how long it will be. I think we’ll determine that later when all the testing is done.”

Moore, a fourth-round pick, was injured when he leaped to disrupt Jameis Winston as he was about to throw to a receiver. Moore landed awkwardly and could not put weight on the leg as he was helped off by trainers, then carted off.
Hafley also said running back Ollie Gordon II was hit in the ribs during the game and cleared to return even though he was held out of the game.
Linebacker Ronnie Harrison Jr. (hamstring) isn’t likely to practice this week. Hafley is hopeful that backup quarterback Quinn Ewers (groin) will return after being out last week.
