A 27-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Martin County sheriff’s officials accused him of being an intoxicated hit-and-run driver.
Ariel Simon Bamaca Camey of Guatemala was arrested early Aug. 15 and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving damage, fleeing and eluding, driving without a valid license and DUI, according to sheriff’s officials.
Bamaca Camey is accused of crashing into a vehicle on Southeast Dixie Highway and then taking off, leaving behind a smashed car, according to officials. The driver called for help, and sheriff’s deputies searched for a white pickup truck with heavy damage to the front.
When they found the pickup truck, Bamaca Camey is accused of taking off away from deputies until “his already-smashed vehicle got pinched into submission,” according to officials.
Bamaca Camey was taken to the Martin County Jail, where he remained Aug. 17 on an ICE detainer, according to sheriff’s officials.
