Each week during the school year the Sarasota Herald-Tribune selects boys athletes that stood out the week before based on a combination of coach reports and school nominations sent to sports htincoming@gmail.com and our coverage. Those athletes are put in a poll sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Health Network, Inc. each Monday on heraldtribune.com and you, our readers, vote on who you think did it best. To get to know our winners better, the Herald-Tribune will have a question-and-answer session with each athlete weekly.
The Herald-Tribune Boys Athlete of the Week sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Health Network for Nov. 3-8, 2025, was Bradenton Christian quarterback Holland Hume, who won the poll with 72.04% of the vote. Hume passed for three touchdowns to help the Panthers pull away in a playoff win over Donahue Catholic.

When and why did you start playing football?
Hume: Technically last year. This is really our first year of football. With our three games we played last year, I really count this as my first year. I really just wanted to experience the brotherhood and the community. I wanted to see how it was, and what the contact was like hitting. I really didn’t understand it at the time, but I’ve learned to love the game. I’ve always been a baseball guy at heart. My grandfather (Tom Hume) played the game 11 years professionally.
What has been the best part of this season?
Hume: So far, probably coach Palone and how he has been such a father-like figure and a leader for me and this team.
What is your favorite all-time favorite football memory?
Hume: It’s hard to say, playing three games this year and going to the state championship now. I’d say winning the state semifinal to go to the state championship.
What has been your most humbling moment in football?
Hume: I haven’t really been super humbled. I’d say this year so far, there have been a couple of games where we couldn’t pass the ball, and we had to move to the run game and readjust. It was humbling wanting to throw the ball, but having to understand that I can’t.
What is your goal in football?
Hume: I’d say to honor the Lord through the game and play to the best of my ability to show His faith and what he’s done.
Who is your favorite football player and why?
Hume: I’m a baseball guy, so I know a lot more about baseball, but I’ve been looking a lot at football and quarterbacks. I’d say Josh Allen just because of all of the people who told him he couldn’t, all of the people who treated him as a regular guy who didn’t pass the ball great, didn’t have the strongest arm, and didn’t run the fastest. I see his story, and it makes me want to be an underdog, kind of like him.
