Former Village Council member Anthony Dowling defeated two others — including the incumbent — in the Aug. 18 general election for a four-year term on Indiantown Village Council seat 4, according to final, unofficial results from the Martin County Supervisor of Elections’ office.
Dowling bested incumbent Angelina Perez and Ana Farias, a real estate broker.
The Village of Indiantown, which incorporated as a municipality in western Martin County on Dec. 31, 2017, has five council members.
Village Council members are paid an annual stipend of $10,000. In addition to this base compensation, they are eligible to receive reimbursements and per diems for official business travel and conference attendance.
Dowling, 39, a U.S. Army veteran, said that in 2017 he helped lead efforts to incorporate Indiantown and later was elected to the inaugural council.
He said his top three priorities for his first year in office are:
Dowling stated he played an important role in negotiating the acquisition of the community’s water utility system. He also represented Indiantown on the Martin County Metropolitan Planning Organization.
“I was born and raised here. My family has called Indiantown home for generations, and I believe deeply in both who we are and what we can become,” Dowling stated. “That belief is what drove me to fight for incorporation nearly a decade ago, and it continues to motivate me today.”
